KC Just Unveiled 4 New Public Art Installations — From a Riverfront Bridge Piece to a Lion at the Zoo

Jul 1, 2026 | Art Scene

Kansas City’s One Percent for Art Program is celebrating the installation of four new public art projects. The art reflects the City’s commitment to supporting artists and enhancing the beauty and cultural vibrancy of our community.

“The One Percent for Art Program was created so that people can be surrounded by art wherever they go”, said Public Art Administrator James Martin. “Whenever the City builds or renovates public infrastructure, such as buildings, streets, bridges, sidewalks, trails, or flood control projects, a portion of eligible project funds is dedicated to commissioning new works of art.”

Through an open and competitive process, artists are invited to apply for opportunities to create site-specific art that reflects the unique character, history, and diversity of our community.

Artists can find current opportunities on the City’s website under the ‘Open Calls’ dropdown.
